What's in OUR First Aid Kit
There are many pre-packaged first aid kits out there, but I believe you should build your own. To help you do that I’ve included what I do, and don’t, include in my own personal First Aid Kid. My choices are based on my husband's 10+ years working in emergency medicine as both an Army medic and a civilian paramedic. The primary goal, for these kits, was to be able to stop bleeding–big or small–quickly and efficiently. Almost all items in the kit are related to that purpose – this is essentially a prepper personal trauma kit.

You'll want to start with a bag - ours is a nice medium-sized bag that easily holds the supplies we want. In addition, it's bright red, making it very easy to tell someone - "bring me the bright red First Aid Kid".

Possibly my husband's favorite item for his First Aid Kids are triangular bandages - these can be used for slings, wraps, pressure dressings, and tourniquets - their flexibility and usefulness makes them possibly the most important item to have in your kit.

While not something everyone is comfortable using - we do keep a tourniquet in our First Aid Kits. We talk as a family about when to use these as well as practicing application on each other as well as ourselves.

Taking up the majority of the space in our First Aid Kit are a variety of bandages. From compression bandages (aka Israeli Battle Dressing) to Kerlix bandage rolls to adhesive bandages (i.e. Bandaids) - each has their appropriate use and are quite useful to have handy.

Besides the 'out of the package' bandages we also store a variety of gauze pads and folded gauze as well as stretchy wrap and surgical tape. With these items you can make a bandage of almost any size or shape.
